Like many African cities, cities in South Africa (including Tshwane) have a chaotic informal public transport systems in the form of minibus taxis.

Minibus Taxi services are popular because:
- Longer running times
- Other routes
- Usually more reliable
- Shorter waiting times
- The service is not regulated
- Bad publicity (although not a regular thing, bad stuff does happen)
- Complicated to use and not alot of information available
